Roxy - Saddlebrook Appaloosas & BarnCams USA - Due 2/6/10

Roxy will be soon under cam!  alarmsmall

 link http://animal.discovery.com/cams/horse.html

More informations about her:

http://www.appaloosa.org/roxy.html

Roxy - A 1993 bay near-leopard with black mane and tail. Very pretty head and neck and a nice slope to her shoulder. Roxy has Plaudit and Strawman bloodlines.

Roxy had a very colorful filly in 2007 Moxy she also had another filly in 2004 Spice by the same sire, our own Supreme Champion and ApHC World's Best Appaloosa Zip Me Impressive - http://www.appaloosa.org/zippy.html

All About Cloudy Agate - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.Cloudy Agate is in foal to Supreme Champion ZMI.
She is due on She is due on Feb. 6, 2010

2. Give us Roxy's statistics, please.
Roxy was born March 19, 1993. She is 15hh. Roxy is now in foal to Zip me Impressive, our Supreme Champion and 2003 World's Best Appaloosa stallion. Roxy has Plaudit and Strawman bloodlines. She has had some very nice few foals. You can see some of them Here.

3. What is Roxy's personality like?
Roxy is great. She is relaxed and quiet. One thing we love about her is that she is calm and even-tempered, like our other mares. That's important to us for breeding purposes to pass along a nice disposition, but also for ease of handling - a horse is a big animal and it costs the same to keep a cranky horse as a nice one....so you might as well make sure you buy a nice one! You can see she has a pretty head and neck, and a nice slope to her shoulder. A good topline, too, although she has had several foals already. She also has lower hocks, which we like. That is thought by some to keep horses more sound. She is great after foaling and a really good mom!

4. Can you tell us about the foal's sire (father)?
The foal's sire is Supreme Champion and 2003 World's Best Appaloosa Zip Me Impressive, or "Zippy" as we call him. Zippy is the youngest Supreme Champion ever in the history of the Appaloosa breed. We bought him when he was 13 months old and he is regularly shown in competitions. He holds over 50 Top Ten World and National and Year End titles and has achieved three bronze medallions.

5. How will you know Roxy is about to give birth?
Roxy will show fairly classic signs of labor. The signals we watch for include her tail cocked continuously to one side; pacing; her udder very full and waxed on the teats; getting smooth and elongated under her tail; the baby moving back into position giving her a more "cylindrical" appearance; and the ligaments on either side of her tail feeling soft and loose in preparation for foaling. In addition she may be not as hungry the day before or day of foaling; she may drip milk from her udder a few hours before delivery, and she may lay down and get up frequently. Her water will break and then the foal should be born within one hour - but sometimes as quickly as 10 minutes, so watch close! The vet says she is to have a colt... we will see.

6. Does the light in the foaling stall bother Roxy?
No, the light is from a low-watt light bulb. We enhance the lighting of the picture via the computer software so that you can see things better at night. Lights are off during the day. We will also turn off the lights after Roxy foals and the baby is up and nursing vigorously. (about two to three hours after foaling) Mother and baby will be in natural light every day, whether they are in the barn or outside in their paddock.

7. What kind of technical equipment do you use to support the BarnCams?
We have six cameras in and outside the barn all devoted to supporting the technical side of the BarnCams. We have four wireless cameras and one video camera pointed at the horses we are featuring each day. An older, wired system runs from the foaling barn to the TVs in the house so that we can do hourly and then half-hour checks at night without running down to the barn. We have three dedicated servers to handle all the traffic - it has been incredible! In addition, we will use a hand-held camera for our BarnBuddy Club members when Roxy foals.

We are all ready for our two foals coming in a couple of weeks.  Fanny is progressing nicely and it looks like she will foal as expected. Roxy actually seems more uncomfortable though she is due much later. Fanny really has been eating over the past few weeks and we have been feeding her up to try to get her fat and happy for foaling. This year she is supposed to have  filly. Trace will be a full brother to her from 2 years ago. He has turned out very nice and I can’t wait to see a female version. LOL We will start doing udder pictures and put straw in the stall the first of the year. Don’t forget to enter our foaling and naming contests if you haven’t already.

Thanks for watching,

Roxy is not yet ready for labor. She has always liked to lay down more than some other mares do, so it may fake you out until you watch closely and see her snoring peacefully!

Enjoy it watching her!  tv

Roxy seems too restful to foal tonight. Though tomorrow is her due date, so things should move along now. nm

Of course, no one can know for sure when Roxy will foal. But she is now moving past her due date so it shouldn't be too long. Her udder does not look ready and there is no wax. Probably not tonight, but we never say "never". She is definitely uncomfortable, and remember, she likes to lay down more than most mares, even when she is not ready to deliver. We need to watch closely.

Roxy has not changed at all over the past couple days. Still has a big udder, no wax or dripping. I checked her last night in the middle of the night and nothing new with her at all.

Thanks for watching,

Speaking of Roxy, still no udder signs, but  she looked a little different in shape to me tonight. Not the shape for foaling, but a little different like maybe the has moved.  So again I watch.

Wow I wish Roxy would foal. It seems like she is unhappy also as the past couple times I came into the stall she has pinned her ears even when I was brushing or petting her. Still no wax or dripping, but I can’t remember excatly how she looked last time she foaled. I need to do a little udder research today. Not sure what old udder pictures I still have other than the 2005 ones.

Thanks for watching,

Roxy is looking mighty restless, kicking at her belly. Bill put straw down and we will ALL BE GONE between 2:30 and 4:20 CST or so today. Bill and Drew are at Boy Scouts, Sarah is ice skating, and I am taking Joe to piano. I am taking the laptop along to piano, but still I am about 20 minutes away. I think she will hold out a little longer - still no wax. I looked back, though, and she had Chester less than one hour after we checked and posted "no wax" and "she's eating". I'd LOVE another colt like Chester! He was one of my all-time favs.

Bill is back home again. I've seen him in the barn controlling the udder of Roxy.  hooray

Tonight is the night? I am not shure, will went to bed now.  zzz

Roxy is acting a little bit more uncomfortable than the last days, but there is no wax and she is not acting very strange. Maybe we have to wait a little bit longer.  hmmm

Bill is home and will watch her tonight. So she is in best hands. If he will go into his bed, it's daytime in Germany and I will watch her again.  yesyes

I hope I will not miss the foaling. I cross my fingers for your for a safe and healthy foaling.

Bill says he really thinks Roxy will foal tonight, (Honest – I did not say it this time!) despite the fact that she has no wax as of 5:00 CST when he last checked her. He said her udder was very taut and kind of shiny, and her teats were pointing “east and west”, poor girl. But right now I can hear her eating hay, so who knows?

...

That way Drew and I can remain ON DUTY to be there if Roxy does, indeed, decide to foal tonight. I have on my lucky foaling sweatshirt and the video cam is charged. I am not expecting any drama with this delivery as Roxy is such a reliable old hand at this.

It made me laugh to think that I really do have a lucky foaling sweatshirt, and I believe I have worn it for the majority of the births here at Saddlebrook for the past ten+ years. If anyone ever looked at old videos, they’d say “Doesn’t that poor woman own more than one SHIRT?!?” It is the kids’ favorite shirt o fmine, too, so as it gets more and more raggedy – almost see-through in some places now – I have to protect it and when it is really disintegrating I will use it as a dishrag or something, or make a pillowcase patch out of it. It is full of memories, way back to when Joe and Sarah were babies. It is my green NYC long slouchy sweatshirt, and it is baggy and soft and comfy. Don’t you all have a shirt like that? Mine just SCREAMS the 90’s!

Wish us luck – shouldn’t be too long now. Thanks for being with us, Buddies!
